Microsoft and Its Partners Stop Botnet ZeroAccess Operation

Dec 7, 2013 (Sat): In collaboration with Europol’s European Cybercrime Center (EC3), the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and A10 Networks Inc., the Microsoft Digital Crimes Unit has successfully disrupted the operation of Sirefef botnet (or known as ZeroAccess) recently.

ZeroAccess is responsible for infecting more than 2 million computers, specifically targeting search results on Google, Bing and Yahoo search engines, and is estimated to cost online advertisers US$2.7 million each month. The action is expected to increase the cost and risk for cybercriminals to continue doing business and preventing victims’ computers from committing fraudulent schemes.
