MDEC Kicks Off Malaysia Digital Week 2022 To Bolster Malaysia As The Region’s Digital Investment Hub

Malaysia Digital Week 2022 (MDW2022), organised by Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), the nation’s lead digital economy agency, returns in its fourth edition at the Connexion Conference & Event Centre, Bangsar South, from 11-14 October 2022.

Among the internationally-renowned line up of speakers at the event include Lord Ed Vaizey, United Kingdom’s longest-serving former Government Culture and Digital Minister, Thomas Trikasih Lembong, Indonesia’s former Minister of Trade, and Winston Wenyan Ma, High-Tech Investor, Digital Economy Author, New York University Adjunct Professor. The event will also feature a host of other prominent and leading captains of the industry and other thought leaders.

Aligned with the recently-launched national strategic initiative, Malaysia Digital (MD), MDW2022 will help to drive MDEC’s goal to strengthen the nation’s position as the Digital Hub of ASEAN. The premier digital tech conference in Malaysia will spotlight digitalisation of the nine tech focus sectors as identified under Malaysia Digital. It will feature power-packed and insightful conversations, discussions and keynotes around technology trends, case studies, progressive digital investment policy and regulatory frameworks.

YB Tan Sri Datuk Seri Panglima Tpr. Annuar bin Haji Musa, Minister of Communications and Multimedia Malaysia (K-KOMM) said, “As the nation’s recognised digital investment promotion agency, MDEC will be working to catalyse growth of the digital ecosystem and secure continued investments from technology companies through strategic initiatives. MDW 2022 will foster stronger relations and engagement with digital investment stakeholders from across the region. We are also looking forward to learning from the innovative ways industry players are using technology to shape an inclusive and equitable digital economy.”

In keeping with emerging corporate trends, MDEC is set to make several key announcements in enhancing Malaysia’s proposition as a prime destination for digital investments. In partnership with Huawei, a white paper entitled “Malaysia: Towards Becoming ASEAN’s Digital Capital” is set to be unveiled. The paper will identify Malaysia’s key strengths and opportunities, both internally and around the region as well as outlining the building blocks for Malaysia to achieve this vision and the synthesis of numerous plans to elevate Malaysia into becoming a regional powerhouse for the digital economy.

The Ministry of Communications and Multimedia is expected to share the latest development on the National Data Sharing Policy (NDSP) which will enable data accessibility, increase data availability in the ecosystem and encourage data usage to foster the country in becoming a data-driven nation.
Through the week-long event, participants will be able to explore investment opportunities, gain valuable market access and insights, network with industry captains within the local tech ecosystem as well as to seek collaborations with industry partners.

MDW 2022 is part of MDEC’s continuous efforts to drive digital investments (Foreign Direct Investments and Domestic Direct Investments) towards achieving RM50 billion worth of investment and creating 50,000 jobs by the year 2025.
