MasterCard contactless payments provide speed and convenience of making payments among the consumer. According to Bank of Japan, there were over 2 trillion yen of contactless transactions made in Japan in 2011, reflecting a strong demand from consumers for simple and secure ways to make everyday payments. In Japan, signatures have not been required for MasterCard contactless purchases under JPY10,000 (RM310.89) since October 2012 for greater ease and convenience.
