Internet Business Summit 2014: Urgency for Businesses to Go Online NOW

October 9, 2014 (Thu): Exabytes Network Sdn Bhd (‘Exabytes’), Malaysia’s largest Web hosting provider, will be hosting its inaugural “Malaysia Internet Business Summit” (‘MIBS’) to emphasize the potential for business growth as exemplified by real statistics and business cases.

To be held on 15 – 16 October 2014 at One World Hotel, Petaling Jaya, MIBS 2014 aims to accelerate the uptake of online-based business model in Malaysia. – Via the viewpoints and perspectives of prominent businesses

These include Twitter and Zalora on leveraging social media for business and the outlook of e-commerce Malaysia respectively. Other speaker representatives include Singapore Post, We Chat, Easy taxi, Expedia Travel, iProperty, Presto, HIShop and other top Internet business players from new and emerging industries on their successful online business strategies and experiences.

Exabytes’ CEO and founder, Chan Kee Siak shares that MIBS 2014 is organised in response to Multimedia Development Corp (MDeC)’s call to support the establishment of a more vibrant digital economy for the country.

“In order to grow the market size of Malaysia’s Internet-based business and e-commerce, it is crucial that more conventional enterprises to move to, and enhance their online presence,” says Chan.

“Apart from retail industry which has reaped the most benefits out of Internet and social media channels, there is actually fairly low participation of other sectors in the Internet market.”

Chan explains that this is mainly due to the fact that many enterprises today enjoy a profitable ‘offline’ business. “Many CEOs, business owners of Malaysian enterprises still do not see the risks of not investing into establishing an online version of their businesses; or are simply unwilling to leave their comfort zone and embark on a new way of doing business.”

According to MDeC, the e-commerce market has become the second biggest local industry in the country and is expected to contribute RM31.1 billion to the nation’s gross domestic product (GDP) by 2020¹.

MIBS 2014 will gather over 150 C-level executives, industries’ leaders, renowned entrepreneurs, senior managers and professionals to share their insights on online market in order to develop the most effective strategy for their businesses and stay at the cutting edge of market competition.

“MIBS 2014 is a Not-To-Be-Missed event in Malaysia. It provides the most complete set of information for enterprises to gain comprehensive understanding how to do business over Internet. In addition, the Summit will offer numerous strategic networking opportunities for participants to harness new business opportunities together, and meet with people behind the successful Internet business.”
