Government eyeing 90 per cent penetration rate of broadband subscription in rural areas
Government has started to distribute 800,000 units of 1Malaysia laptop computers in rural areas from now until November as part of its efforts under the implementation of broadband initiatives and online government services (EPP6-Deepening of E-Government), BERNAMA reported.
The government aims to increase broadband subscription in rural areas to 90 per cent households by 2020. According to Secretary-General of Ministry of Information Communications and Culture, Datuk Seri Kamaruddin Siaraf, 1,408 Wireles Kampungs and 251 Community Broadband Centres were established under the same initiative. He added that the government’s efforts have made 41 per cent of government services available online as of September 2012.
