AIMS Group CEO and MyIX Chairman Comments on Budget 2015

October 19, 2014 (Sun): AIMS Group (‘AIMS’) the country’s premier carrier-neutral data centre Group CEO, Chiew Kok Hin who is also the Chairman the Malaysian Internet Exchange (MyIX) or also known as ‘Persatuan Pengendali Internet Malaysia’, comments on Budget 2015.

“We welcome the governments continued focus on the services sector where we hope the Business Services sector that is made out of Outsourcing and Data Centre players will benefit from this Services Sector Blueprint. As the world becomes more digital, more and more data will need to be hosted and it is wise on the government to leverage on boosting this sector.”

Measure 10: Spurring Creative Industry – Digital Content Industry Fund under MCMC

“The governments intent to spur the growth of digital content is applauded as we are seeing an increase in the number of digital content being churned out worldwide. As more and more digital content is created, the data centre industry should see an increase in demand. However we will need to ensure the pains of the industry are looked into or we will lose out to more cost effective countries in the region. We hope in the near future that the government will look into reducing or offering special taxes for electricity tariffs as that takes up 40 percent of our operations cost and makes the industry not as attractive to potential investors.”

Measure 11: Increasing Capacity of High-Speed Broadband

“The government’s continued investment in enhancing the internet experience in Malaysia bodes well for consumers as well as businesses nationwide as connectivity is a key element in the way we do business today.”
