Yamanashi Prefecture Introduces Online Reservations and Entry Fees for Mount Fuji Climbers

Yamanashi Prefecture is set to introduce online reservations for visitors climbing Mount Fuji on the most commonly used trail, aiming to ease congestion and streamline the entry process. The prefectural government will start collecting entry fees this summer as part of the new system.

Beginning at 10 am on May 20th, climbers can pay a fee of 2,000 yen (US$13) in advance through the online reservation system, according to Kyodo news agency quoting the local government. With a maximum of 4,000 climbers per day accepted, 3,000 slots will be available through online booking.

Additionally, up to 1,000 visitors will have the option to pay the fees at the trail’s reception area on the day of their climb.

Reservations can be made via the official website for climbing Mount Fuji, which is operated by the prefecture and other stakeholders, until the day before the climb, allowing up to 100 people to book at once. Payment methods include credit card or QR code, and refunds are not generally provided.
