The World Smart City Awards, akin to the “Oscars” in smart city development, recognize excellence in emerging Asian cities’ initiatives. With Asia’s cities poised for significant growth, the awards aim to foster collaboration and sustainable development, inviting applications until September 2024.
28 March 2024 – For the past 13 years, the World Smart City Awards, hosted by the Smart City Expo World Congress, have served as the pinnacle event in the realm of global smart city advancements, earning the moniker of the “Oscars” in this field.
With 440 emerging-market cities projected to drive nearly half of global GDP growth from 2010 to 2025, the spotlight shines particularly bright on Asia, home to 57% of the world’s population, most of whom reside in urban centers. The development trajectory of these cities not only showcases immense potential but also underscores the rich diversity shaped by factors like ethnicity, geography, history, and economic progress.
In line with this burgeoning significance, the Region Smart City Awards—focused specifically on emerging Asian cities—have been established to honor exceptional projects, organizations, and leaders driving smart city initiatives. The awards aim to cultivate a culture of collaboration and knowledge exchange among Asian cities, fostering diversified and sustainable development. Emphasizing inclusiveness, equality, technology for societal good, and stakeholder collaboration, the evaluation criteria encompass various facets such as diversity, innovation, relevance, impact, citizen engagement, and scalability of solutions.
Shortlisted candidates will have the opportunity to participate in the Smart City Expo World Congress · Hangzhou Stage, slated for September 25 to 29, 2024. This event will feature forums, closed-door meetings between government and industry stakeholders, and the prestigious award ceremony. Recipients of the awards will receive trophies, certificates, and inclusion in the esteemed Essence of Award Cases (Region*) publication.
