Western Union has launched its first two company-owned retail locations in Malaysia as part of its global retail strategy to enhance customer experience and promote financial inclusion in migrant communities. The new stores are located in Semenyih and Sunway, both areas with significant migrant populations.

MALAYSIA, 2 DECEMBER 2025 – In a move that signals its commitment to strengthening its presence in Malaysia, Western Union has launched its first two company-owned retail locations in the country. This expansion is part of the company’s broader global retail strategy, which focuses on offering customers enhanced service and an omni-channel experience.

The new stores, located in Semenyih and Sunway on the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur, will serve the growing migrant communities in Malaysia. Malaysia, home to a large number of overseas workers, holds the distinction of having the second highest number of Western Union company-owned stores in Asia. The Semenyih store, located southeast of the capital, caters to migrants from countries such as Bangladesh, Indonesia, Nepal, and Myanmar. The second location in Sunway is equally focused on meeting the needs of migrants living and working in Malaysia.

These Western Union-owned retail outlets offer more than just international money transfers—they provide a premium brand experience designed to elevate customer service. This move marks a significant shift in the way the company operates in Malaysia, with an emphasis on delivering superior service while supporting financial inclusion for the diverse migrant communities in the region.

Bhavin Shah, Country Director for Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei, Hong Kong, and Macau, expressed his excitement about the launch, stating, “I am extremely pleased with the launch of the first two Western Union-owned locations in Malaysia. This is a vote of confidence in the nation’s retail sector, which caters to a growing population of migrant workers since the pandemic.”

Shah went on to add, “This store marks a new way for us to re-invent and evolve our retail presence in Malaysia alongside our key committed partners and serve our customers even better. At the same time, it provides an opportunity to trial new products and services, as we aim to become a one-stop shop for all our customers’ financial needs.”

Western Union has been a trusted presence in Malaysia since 1993, with a robust retail network that spans the entire country. With the opening of these new company-owned locations, the brand is poised to further solidify its role in enhancing financial accessibility for both local and international customers.
