UnionPay has partnered with over 60 major online merchants to enable seamless and secure online payments for UnionPay cards issued outside mainland China, enhancing accessibility for international users through Project Excellence 2024. The initiative aims to support diverse online payment scenarios and improve the global payment experience.
23 May 2024 – UnionPay has recently partnered with over 60 online merchants, including major names like Meituan, Ctrip, JD.com, and Pinduoduo, to facilitate online payments for UnionPay cards issued outside mainland China. This collaboration covers essential online activities such as shopping, transit, flight bookings, and utility payments, reflecting UnionPay’s commitment to providing diverse and seamless payment services for international customers, driven by the innovations of Project Excellence 2024.
International users can now select “UnionPay” or the merchant’s service as their payment method at checkout and securely link their UnionPay card. This service is available across numerous popular apps, including Meituan (lifestyle), Ctrip (travel), Pinduoduo (retail), CaoCao Mobility (ride-share), T3 Go (ride-share), Didachuxing (ride-share), Air China (airline), Dingdang Kuaiyao (pharmacy), Yonghui Life (supermarket), CR Vanguard (supermarket), RT-Mart (grocery), Sam’s Club (retail), and BL.com (retail). UnionPay online payment aims to meet the preferences of international users in China, ensuring a secure and efficient payment experience with standardized specifications and access, eliminating barriers in online payment processes. The unified payment portal and onboarding process also enable merchants to easily integrate UnionPay, receiving comprehensive support from the payment network.
In alignment with the Chinese government’s initiative to optimize and enhance payment convenience, UnionPay launched Project Excellence 2024 to improve accessibility in key scenarios. UnionPay’s acceptance network now spans over 22 million online merchants in more than 200 countries and regions outside mainland China, supporting various everyday use cases, including online shopping, takeaway, taxi services, travel bookings, and utility payments. This network caters to the 230 million UnionPay cards issued internationally.
