Cybercriminals are exploiting the global demand for Dubai’s luxury chocolate with fake websites and e-commerce platforms, impersonating trusted brands like Deliveroo and creating fraudulent storefronts to deceive consumers. Kaspersky experts urge vigilance and offer tips to avoid falling victim to these scams.
28 January 2025 – Dubai’s luxury chocolate is renowned worldwide, but eager consumers are falling victim to a wave of online scams. Kaspersky experts have uncovered a series of fraudulent schemes designed to exploit the growing demand for these sweet treats.
Cybercriminals are employing various tactics, including impersonating trusted brands and creating entirely fake online stores. In one campaign targeting consumers in the United Arab Emirates, scammers created websites mimicking Deliveroo, the popular delivery service, and Fix Dessert Chocolatier, a well-known Dubai chocolate brand. These fake platforms lure unsuspecting buyers into placing orders that are never fulfilled.
Beyond impersonation, scammers are also setting up standalone fraudulent e-commerce platforms, posing as independent vendors selling Dubai chocolate. These websites often target a global audience, disappearing once payments are collected, leaving consumers empty-handed and disappointed.
“Scammers are quick to capitalize on trends, and the Dubai chocolate craze is a prime example,” warns Olga Svistunova, a security expert at Kaspersky. “By preying on consumer enthusiasm and trust in established brands, cybercriminals can effectively deceive their victims.”
To avoid falling prey to these scams, Kaspersky advises consumers to be vigilant. Verify website authenticity by checking URLs, domain names, and customer reviews. Be wary of unsolicited offers and avoid sharing personal information on unverified platforms. Utilizing comprehensive security solutions like Kaspersky Premium can also help block phishing sites and prevent malware infections.
