Rubrik and Sophos have announced a strategic partnership to deliver the first MDR-optimized Microsoft 365 backup and recovery solution, fully integrated into the Sophos Central platform. This collaboration enhances cyber resilience for over 75,000 Sophos customers, offering fast, secure recovery against ransomware, account compromise, and data loss.
MALAYSIA, 7 AUGUST 2025 – Rubrik, a leading cybersecurity firm, has partnered with Sophos, a global cybersecurity innovator, to launch Sophos M365 Backup and Recovery Powered by Rubrik—a first-of-its-kind solution optimized for Managed Detection and Response (MDR) and fully integrated into the Sophos Central security operations platform.
This new solution empowers IT and cybersecurity teams with a unified platform to protect Microsoft 365 environments, including SharePoint, Exchange, OneDrive, and Teams, from modern threats like ransomware, insider attacks, and accidental data loss. It combines Sophos’ prevention-first approach with Rubrik’s robust, rapid recovery capabilities to enhance business continuity and cyber resilience.
The offering provides secure, immutable backups using air-gapped storage, WORM locks, and customer-held encryption keys. Multifactor authentication and tamper-proofing ensure that even compromised credentials can’t alter backup data. Automated protection features include seamless discovery of users and mailboxes and policy enforcement via Entra ID.
Customers can recover emails, OneDrive files, Teams channels, and more—either to the original user accounts or to alternate ones, including deactivated users. All of these capabilities are accessible through the familiar Sophos Central platform, eliminating the need for additional tools or complex integrations.
Sophos Central, known for integrating over 350 telemetry sources, leverages deep learning and custom LLMs to detect threats across endpoints, cloud, email, identity, and networks—making this new backup solution a critical addition to a comprehensive defense strategy.
Research from Sophos shows that nearly half of ransomware victims still pay ransoms, yet only 54% rely on backups for data recovery—highlighting a significant gap in organizational preparedness. Meanwhile, Microsoft 365 accounts remain a key attack vector, with 60% of tenants experiencing account takeovers and 81% facing email compromise.
The solution will be available in the coming months through Sophos’ global network of channel partners. Organizations attending Black Hat USA can visit Rubrik at Booth #1357 and Sophos at Booth #2740 to learn more.
