Razorpay Curlec has partnered with NPCI International Payments Limited (NIPL) to introduce India’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI) in Malaysia, enabling millions of Indian travellers to make instant payments to local merchants using their preferred UPI apps. The move marks a major milestone in enhancing cross-border payment connectivity between India and Malaysia.

MALAYSIA, 31 OCTOBER 2025 – Malaysia is set to become one of the first countries in Southeast Asia to adopt India’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI) system, following a landmark partnership between Razorpay Curlec, Malaysia’s leading payment gateway, and NPCI International Payments Limited (NIPL). The agreement, signed at India’s Global Fintech Fest 2025, represents a significant stride in building seamless cross-border commerce between the two nations.

The collaboration will enable Indian travellers to make instant payments in Malaysia using their UPI-enabled apps, with transactions settled directly in Malaysian ringgit through Razorpay Curlec’s platform. This eliminates the need for international cards or additional integration, offering both convenience for tourists and efficiency for merchants.

In 2024, Malaysia welcomed one million Indian tourists who spent RM6.11 billion—a 71.7% year-on-year increase—highlighting the growing potential of the India–Malaysia travel corridor. With UPI acceptance, Malaysian merchants can now tap into a vast, digitally savvy market eager for cashless and frictionless payment options.

Kevin Lee, Country Head and CEO of Razorpay Curlec, said, “Indian travellers represent one of the fastest-growing visitor groups to Malaysia, yet many still rely on cash or face high fees when using international cards. By enabling UPI payments, we will make it easier for them to spend and easier for Malaysian businesses to earn.”

Ritesh Shukla, CEO of NIPL, added, “UPI has transformed the way India pays. Extending its reach to Malaysia will allow millions of Indian travellers to enjoy the same convenience abroad while helping Malaysian merchants benefit from a trusted, secure payment network.”

Angad Dhindsa, Executive Director and Head of Southeast Asia at Razorpay, noted that this partnership underscores the power of financial innovation in connecting economies: “Integrating India’s UPI system with Malaysia’s digital economy will set new standards for cross-border financial connectivity across the region.”

India’s UPI, which processed nearly 20 billion transactions in September 2025, has become a global benchmark for real-time digital payments. Its expansion into Malaysia complements ASEAN’s broader goal of regional payment integration through initiatives like the common QR standard and Project Nexus.

Through such strategic collaborations, Razorpay Curlec continues to strengthen Malaysia’s digital payment infrastructure, fostering financial inclusion and positioning the country as a key hub for cross-border digital commerce in Asia.
