17 Nigerians, a local and a Thai were arrested by Police to investigate over online scam which had cheated several people of more than RM400,000 after received a chef lodged a report to the police, The New Straits Time reported.
The chef was reported that he had been duped into paying RM6,800 for a parcel purportedly sent to him by an online friend who claimed to be from the United Kingdom after 3 months of exchanging emails.
According to City Commercial Crime Investigation Department chief Assistant Commissioner Izany Abdul Ghani, the Nigerian men had entered Malaysia on valid student visas and the police still investigating how many other victims involved including checking with Nigerians’ colleges and universities to get more information for the investigation.
