27 May 2024 – NTT DATA, a global leader in digital business and IT services, has announced its agreement to acquire a 58.7% stake in GHL Systems Berhad, a prominent Malaysian payment service provider listed on BURSA MALAYSIA. This strategic move includes a proposal for a tender offer to the remaining shareholders of GHL Systems.
This acquisition positions NTT DATA to expand its influence in the ASEAN region, leveraging GHL Systems’ extensive network of over 480,000 payment terminals and comprehensive payment services in Malaysia, the Philippines, and Thailand. GHL Systems, founded in 1994, boasts a robust market presence, particularly in cashless services, offering a wide range of local payment methods and utility bill payment services.
NTT DATA, renowned for its CAFIS® payment platform, has been a pioneer in the payment industry for 40 years. The company operates various payment businesses through its group companies across Asia, such as VietUnion Online Services (Payoo) in Vietnam, iPay88 in Malaysia, and NTT DATA Payment Services India. By integrating GHL Systems’ capabilities, NTT DATA aims to enhance its service offerings and solidify its business foundation in the ASEAN region.
The collaboration will also see NTT DATA enhancing omni-channel payment services in Malaysia, combining in-store and e-commerce solutions through iPay88 Malaysia, a leader in e-commerce payment services. This initiative underscores NTT DATA’s commitment to fostering a more convenient and secure cashless society across Southeast Asia.
