14 December 2023 – Payments Network Malaysia (PayNet) has introduced the “MY TouristPay App,” the first mobile payment app in Malaysia designed for international visitors. This app enables tourists to utilize the DuitNow QR code to make secure payments during their stay.
Tourists can input credit or debit card details into the MY TouristPay App, allowing them to scan DuitNow QR codes for convenient payments at over 1.9 million DuitNow QR merchants across Malaysia. PayNet’s CEO, Farhan Ahmad, anticipates that this initiative will significantly boost sales for small and medium-sized businesses that currently don’t accept card payments.
The MY TouristPay App not only offers ease of use for payments during business travels or vacations in Malaysia but also provides broad reach and improved security, reducing the risk of loss or theft. This initiative aligns with PayNet Cambah, an ESG program focused on creating sustainable communities through digital payments.
The initial phase of PayNet Cambah included collaborations with entities like Suri Lifestyle, emphasizing the training of mothers from B40 communities and enhancing e-commerce capabilities. In its second phase, PayNet Cambah aims to internationalize Langkawi businesses and artisans through digitalization, enhancing their digital payment capabilities and e-commerce enablement. Strategic collaborations with local artisans, including Akuart Woodcarvings, Datai Valley Virgin Coconut Oil, Crystal Langkawi, and Ilham Ceramics, are part of this effort to enable them to enter the international market. – ref: NST
