Malaysia Pavilion at Tokyo Game Show 2024: A Catalyst for USD67 Million in Sales and Global Gaming Partnerships

The Malaysia Pavilion at Tokyo Game Show 2024 facilitated over 150 business meetings and potential sales of USD67.11 million, highlighting the nation’s growing influence in the global gaming sector. With collaboration from MDEC and MATRADE, 10 leading Malaysian gaming studios were showcased, driving innovation and partnerships on an international scale.


19 October 2024 – The Malaysia Pavilion made a remarkable impact at the Tokyo Game Show (TGS) 2024, one of the world’s largest gaming events. Over the course of the four-day event, more than 150 business meetings took place between Malaysian and Japanese gaming companies, resulting in potential sales valued at USD67.11 million. The event drew a record-breaking 274,739 visitors and hosted 985 companies and organizations from 44 countries and regions.

This year, the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) teamed up with the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) to create new opportunities for collaboration between Malaysian game developers and international industry leaders. This partnership, which has represented Malaysia at TGS for the past eight years, underscores the nation’s growing influence in the global gaming market.

Held from September 26 to 29, 2024, the Malaysia Pavilion showcased 10 prominent Malaysian gaming studios, each specializing in different aspects of game development and visual effects (VFX). These studios, which play key roles in video game production from concept to publishing, include:

  1. Adticles – An interactive entertainment company focused on creating virtual characters and metaverse environments.
  2. Ammobox Studios – A game developer known for end-to-end game production using Unreal Engine and developing original intellectual properties (IPs).
  3. Bear Down Studios – Specializes in creating imaginative worlds and story concepts for video games and movies.
  4. Dreamscapes Edtech – An educational technology company that designs game-based learning tools.
  5. eSolved MSC – Developer of Youniverse, Malaysia’s first meta-commerce platform connecting real-world and virtual experiences.
  6. Goolee – A developer of a board game designed to enhance cognitive skills.
  7. Magnus Studio – Specializes in game IP development and concept creation.
  8. Rcade Studio – Focuses on original video game IP development.
  9. Todak Studios – Known for developing and managing original game IP.
  10. Why Knot – A versatile game studio specializing in mobile, VR, and AR game development.

MDEC’s ongoing support for the gaming sector is driven by its commitment to nurturing local talent, fostering innovation, and promoting original intellectual properties, positioning Malaysia as a significant player in the global gaming ecosystem. This initiative contributes to Malaysia’s growing digital economy and enhances its cultural footprint on the international stage.

Datuk Fadzli Abdul Wahit, Head of MDEC’s Digital Transformation Division, highlighted the significance of Malaysia’s presence at TGS, saying, “We proudly showcased Malaysia’s dynamic digital creative industry, especially in gaming, where our developers are telling unique stories that resonate worldwide. Our participation underscores our commitment to fostering creativity and innovation globally.”

Datuk Mohd Mustafa Abdul Aziz, CEO of MATRADE, emphasized the strategic importance of Malaysia’s participation at TGS 2024 in positioning local companies on the global gaming landscape. “As we look forward to World Expo Osaka 2025, our presence at TGS has built momentum, cementing Malaysia’s position as a hub of innovation and creativity in the global content industry. This initiative will contribute to an 8% growth in digital content exports, in line with the MyDigital Blueprint and the 12th Malaysia Plan.”

In addition to the showcase, MDEC arranged numerous business meetings with international gaming giants such as Bandai Namco Studios, Nintendo, and Digital Hearts, furthering partnerships and reinforcing Malaysia’s presence in the global gaming market.
