The Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) has launched the IP360 Metaverse Platform, a cutting-edge initiative blending cultural preservation with digital storytelling. Featuring a Virtual Theme Park and Digital Museum, this platform positions Malaysia as a global leader in immersive digital content.
10 January 2025 – The Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) has announced the public launch of the IP360 Metaverse Platform, a transformative initiative designed to highlight Malaysia’s leadership in digital innovation and cultural preservation. Developed in partnership with Ammobox Studios Sdn Bhd, the platform redefines how audiences worldwide engage with Malaysia’s rich heritage and creative talent.
Currently in its Minimum Viable Product (MVP) stage, the IP360 Metaverse Platform offers an interactive 3D experience accessible to users via any web browser, eliminating the need for high-performance hardware. Powered by Unreal Engine 5 and Pixel Streaming, it delivers exceptional visual quality and seamless accessibility.
The platform introduces two flagship features:
- Virtual Theme Park: Visitors can immerse themselves in interactive experiences centered around beloved Malaysian intellectual properties (IPs) such as Ejen Ali and Didi and Friends. Activities include games like “Find the Spy” and skill-building challenges at the “Training Centre.” The Didi and Friends segment is set to premiere in Q1 2025.
- Digital Museum: Users can explore Malaysia’s cultural heritage through engaging artifact interactions, treasure hunt games, local language lessons, and holographic traditional dance performances.
This ambitious platform was made possible through strategic collaborations with organisations such as Tourism Malaysia, ASWARA, Istana Budaya, and other prominent IP brands. These partnerships reflect a shared mission to amplify Malaysia’s cultural and creative assets on a global scale.
MDEC CEO Mr. Anuar Fariz Fadzil remarked, “The launch of the IP360 Metaverse Platform aligns with Malaysia’s national agenda to strengthen its creative digital industries. By leveraging immersive technologies, we aim to create jobs and drive economic growth, solidifying Malaysia’s position as a hub for high-quality digital content production by 2030.”
This year, MDEC further supported 38 companies and IP creators through its Metaverse Onboarding and Immersive IP Experiences Programme, offering funding of up to RM200,000 per project to explore metaverse opportunities.
