Malaysia and Thailand Join Forces to Combat Cybercrime in Financial Sector

Bank Negara Malaysia and the Bank of Thailand have signed a landmark MoU to boost cooperation in cybersecurity and digital fraud prevention. The pact aims to enhance information sharing, capacity building, and joint defences against rising cyber threats in the financial industry.


MALAYSIA, 10 APRIL 2025 – The agreement, signed today by BNM Governor Dato’ Seri Abdul Rasheed Ghaffour and BOT Governor H.E. Dr. Sethaput Suthiwartnarueput, marks a significant step towards fostering stronger bilateral ties between the two central banks. The MoU aims to facilitate enhanced information sharing, capacity building, and the exchange of best practices in safeguarding the financial ecosystems of both nations.

“This partnership with the Bank of Thailand will significantly deepen our cooperation in cybersecurity and the fight against digital fraud,” said Dato’ Seri Abdul Rasheed. “BNM remains committed to enhancing the resilience of our financial institutions and strengthening protection for financial consumers against current and emerging cyber threats.”

BOT Governor Dr. Sethaput echoed this sentiment, noting that the MoU is a timely and strategic move amid increasingly sophisticated cyberattacks. “Close collaboration and knowledge sharing are essential. Through this partnership, we aim to enhance the resilience and security of our financial systems for the benefit of consumers in both countries.”

The MoU reinforces both central banks’ shared commitment to defending against cybercrime and ensuring secure, stable financial environments across borders.
