The ASEAN (Malaysia)-China Conference on Emerging Industries opened in Kuala Lumpur, emphasizing enhanced cooperation in new energy, digital technology, and cultural industries. Over 300 participants attended, highlighting strategic partnerships and exploring new growth opportunities in Malaysia.
11 June 2024 – On June 5, Kuala Lumpur hosted the opening ceremony of the ASEAN (Malaysia)-China Conference on Emerging Industries. The event was guided and hosted by the ASEAN-China Centre (ACC), China International Communications Group (CICG), and Malaysia’s Ministry of Investment, Trade, and Industry (MITI), with co-hosts including CICG Asia-Pacific Center, National Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia (NCCIM), Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia (ACCCIM), and China Enterprises Chamber of Commerce in Malaysia (CECCM). The conference attracted over 300 guests from governmental, business, and academic circles of China and Malaysia.
The opening ceremony featured speeches from distinguished leaders including Shi Zhongjun, Secretary-General of ACC; Liu Dawei, Vice President of CICG; Datuk Hanafi Sakri, Deputy Secretary-General of MITI; Ouyang Yujing, Ambassador of China to Malaysia; Soh Thian Lai, President of NCCIM; Low Kian Chuan, President of ACCCIM; and Ni Qingjiu, President of CECCM.
In his speech, Shi Zhongjun highlighted the success of ASEAN-China cooperation, emphasizing its role in regional prosperity and post-COVID economic recovery. He noted the conference’s aim to explore new development goals and key areas to enhance ASEAN-China and Malaysia-China collaboration in emerging industries.
Liu Dawei spoke about the vital role of economic and trade cooperation in China-Malaysia relations, underscoring Malaysia’s opportunities for integration into China’s modernization efforts. He called for enhanced cooperation in new energy vehicles, digital technology, and the cultural industry.
Datuk Hanafi Sakri praised the conference for fostering discussions on deepening cooperation and exploring new opportunities. He emphasized Malaysia’s commitment to strengthening economic ties with China, focusing on digital economy and green energy sectors.
Ambassador Ouyang Yujing acknowledged the achievements in China-Malaysia economic and industrial cooperation over the past 50 years. He stressed the importance of digital and green economy collaboration and advocated for multilateralism to drive regional development.
Soh Thian Lai and Low Kian Chuan discussed the importance of promoting emerging industries for future economic growth and sustainability. They highlighted the role of preferential policies in attracting Chinese investments and creating mutual benefits.
Ni Qingjiu emphasized CECCM’s role in promoting China-Malaysia trade and investment relations and supporting green and sustainable development initiatives.
The conference also included sessions promoting trade and investment opportunities, featuring speakers such as May Lim from the Malaysian Investment Development Authority and Yang Yanyan from the China-ASEAN Business Council Joint Secretariat. The event concluded with the establishment of the China-ASEAN Industrial Chain and Supply Chain Alliance and the China-ASEAN Cultural Community Alliance.
Participants attended themed forums on new energy vehicles, new generation information technology, and the creative cultural industry. These sessions focused on cooperation, low-carbon transformation, and the application of new technologies in cultural and entertainment sectors.
Following the opening ceremony, attendees embarked on a four-day exploration of Malaysia’s emerging industries to enhance understanding and foster economic and trade cooperation between China and Malaysia.
