Kaspersky Blocks Over 13 Million Web Threats in Southeast Asia, Launches New Cybersecurity Solutions

Kaspersky detected and blocked over 13 million web threats targeting businesses in Southeast Asia in 2023, marking a 31% increase from 2020. This rise in cyber threats underscores the need for advanced, intelligence-led cybersecurity solutions, which Kaspersky addresses with its new enterprise portfolio, Kaspersky Next.

28 May 2024 – Kaspersky has announced a significant milestone in its cybersecurity efforts for businesses in Southeast Asia (SEA), having detected and blocked over 13 million web threats from January to December 2023. This marks a notable 31% increase compared to the threats identified in 2020. On average, cybercriminals launched 36,552 online attacks daily targeting businesses across the region last year.

Web threats, or online threats, encompass a variety of cybersecurity risks that can lead to harmful events or actions via the internet. These threats exploit vulnerabilities in end-users, web service developers, operators, or the web services themselves. Such threats pose substantial risks to both individuals and organizations.

The breakdown of detected threats in 2023 across the SEA region is as follows:

Country20222023
Indonesia6,418,5884,968,729
Malaysia1,820,4371,539,905
Philippines492,5671,691,167
Singapore889,0931,653,726
Thailand1,232,3111,531,430
Vietnam2,485,1681,956,618
Total13,338,16413,341,575

Significantly, the Philippines saw a staggering 243% increase in web threats, jumping from 492,567 in 2022 to 1,691,167 in 2023. Singapore also experienced a substantial rise of 86%, while Thailand reported a 24% increase in internet-related threats.

These statistics are based on Kaspersky’s B2B products installed in various business sizes throughout the region.

Yeo Siang Tiong, General Manager for Southeast Asia at Kaspersky, emphasized the urgency for local businesses to strengthen their cyber defenses. He stated, “Economic experts predict positive growth for key Southeast Asian countries this year, accompanied by the growth of strong digital economies. As governments enhance their digital policies and infrastructure, it is crucial for businesses to prioritize cybersecurity to mitigate threats that could undermine digitalization efforts.”

A recent study highlighted that more than a quarter (28%) of businesses in SEA acknowledge increased exposure to cyberattacks due to digitalization efforts. Additionally, 16% of respondents reported higher external pressure to disclose cyber incidents and comply with cybersecurity practices.

Yeo added, “2024 should be the year for businesses to advance their cybersecurity measures. Basic firewall and endpoint solutions are no longer sufficient. With the vast amount of data managed by organizations today and the significant reputational and financial damages potential attacks can cause, adaptive and intelligence-led security solutions are imperative.”

To support businesses in SEA, Kaspersky has launched its new enterprise portfolio, Kaspersky Next. This next-generation product line offers powerful endpoint protection, essential EDR technology, and advanced XDR capabilities, providing robust, cloud-native security solutions to counter sophisticated and emerging cyber threats.
