PETALING JAYA: Japan’s leading e-commerce company, Rakuten Inc. has extended its foot print into Malaysia as its third e-commerce market entry in Southeast Asia, after Thailand (as TARAD) in 2009 and Indonesia (as Rakuten Belanja Online) in 2011.
According to Rakuten Malaysia’s President and CEO Masaya Ueno, the company is going to launch an online shopping mall in the country end of year 2012. He added that the Rakuten shopping experience able to bring the best of both worlds to consumers and merchants.
Rakuten Malaysia is currently assisting merchants especially mid-sized and large retailers across the industry to open and operate the store smoothly before the official launching of its online mall in the country. To reduce the online fraud, Rakuten will provide escrow services which help to protect both buyers and sellers from the fraud risk by intermediating.
