Groq has expanded its AI infrastructure into the Asia-Pacific region with a new 4.5MW deployment at Equinix Sydney, delivering up to 5x faster and lower-cost compute for AI workloads. The move brings high-performance AI inference closer to Malaysia and regional organizations amid surging demand for GenAI solutions.
MALAYSIA, 25 NOVEMBER 2025 – Groq, a global pioneer in AI inference technology, has expanded its global infrastructure footprint to the Asia-Pacific region through a major deployment in Equinix’s International Business Exchange (IBX) data center in Sydney, Australia. Following earlier launches in the United States and Europe, the collaboration brings Groq’s fast, cost-efficient, and scalable LPU Inference Engine closer to enterprises and the public sector across Malaysia and Asia-Pacific.
Under the partnership, Groq and Equinix will establish one of Australia’s largest high-speed AI inference sites with a 4.5MW Groq facility in Sydney. The infrastructure delivers up to five times faster and lower-cost compute performance compared to traditional GPUs and major hyperscaler cloud platforms. Through Equinix Fabric, a software-defined interconnection service, organizations throughout the region will gain secure, low-latency, high-speed access to GroqCloud for production-grade AI workloads, with full control and compliance.
The expansion comes as AI adoption accelerates across Asia-Pacific. According to IDC’s latest Worldwide AI and Generative AI Spending Guide, AI and GenAI investments in the region are expected to reach US$110 billion by 2028, growing at a 24% compound annual growth rate from 2023.
By combining Groq’s advanced AI inference technology with Equinix’s global connectivity and vendor-neutral infrastructure, businesses can scale AI workloads with greater efficiency, affordability, and performance.
Cliff Obrecht, Co-Founder and COO of Canva, highlighted Australia’s growing role in AI innovation, noting its potential to accelerate global creativity. Groq CEO and Founder Jonathan Ross emphasized the need to expand compute availability worldwide, stating that the partnership marks a major milestone in improving access to high-performance AI.

Scott Albin, Groq’s General Manager for APAC, noted that over half of Groq’s global developers are already based in Asia-Pacific. He said the Sydney deployment will bring high-performance, cost-effective AI infrastructure closer to the region while supporting data sovereignty and privacy needs.
Cyrus Adaggra, President of Equinix Asia-Pacific, said the partnership demonstrates how Equinix’s global platform helps next-generation AI companies scale quickly and efficiently.
Key highlights include Groq’s LPU Inference Engine offering unmatched throughput and latency for next-generation open-source LLMs, energy-efficient performance designed specifically for AI inference, and access to Equinix’s global ecosystem through Equinix Fabric. GroqCloud also allows users worldwide to access Groq’s technology, with options for cloud-based or on-premises AI compute deployments.
