Dec 19, 2013 (Thu): A small number of people will see video ads for the new film ‘Divergent’ begin playing as they come into view in Facebook News Feed on mobile and desktop this week. This is part of Facebook’s effort to test a way to make videos more engaging on the platform which was started in September this year.
The video will begin as it appear on screen but played without sound and the sound only appears when people click or tap the video and play it in full screen. At the end of the video a carousel of two additional videos will appear, making it easy to continue to discover content from the same marketers.
If on mobile devices, all videos that begin playing as they appear on the screen will have been downloaded in advance when the device was connected to WiFi and thus no data will be consumed.
