Couchbase announces major updates to its Couchbase Mobile platform, enabling AI-powered applications to run seamlessly on edge devices—even in disconnected environments. Key enhancements include JavaScript support for browser-based apps, advanced peer-to-peer synchronization, and multi-cluster resilience, helping businesses deliver always-on applications with simplified integration and reduced costs.

MALAYSIA, 25 NOVEMBER 2025 – Couchbase, Inc., the developer data platform powering critical AI applications, has unveiled major advancements to its Couchbase Mobile platform, enabling organizations to deploy AI-powered applications at the disconnected edge. With the introduction of JavaScript support for Couchbase Lite, developers can now run embedded databases in any web browser, creating offline-first web applications and unified data synchronization across web, mobile, desktop, and custom hardware applications.

Enhanced peer-to-peer (P2P) data synchronization now features device auto-discovery and network auto-switching, adapting dynamically as users enter or leave networks. These capabilities enable offline collaboration at the edge, while new core enhancements ensure deployment resilience and seamless failover, keeping applications fast and available, with or without internet connectivity.

“Building AI applications for the edge requires fast, personalized, and always-available experiences, even in disconnected environments,” said Matt McDonough, SVP of Product at Couchbase. “Couchbase Mobile’s latest updates accelerate development and ensure continuous uptime, providing the most comprehensive mobile and edge support in the industry. While other vendors are deprecating mobile support, we are expanding capabilities to include browser-based JavaScript applications.”

Always-On Apps Drive Business Continuity
With growing reliance on AI applications on mobile and edge devices, consistent availability is crucial. Forrester research shows nearly half of enterprise professionals prioritize edge technology adoption in the coming year. Couchbase Mobile ensures AI-capable applications remain resilient, synchronizing data across devices even in internet dead zones.

Aptos, a global leader in unified commerce solutions, leverages Couchbase Capella™ to power its retail platform, Aptos ONE. John Carney, VP of Architecture at Aptos, stated: “Couchbase Mobile’s peer-to-peer replication ensures always-on performance for retailers, saving over $1 million annually while reducing infrastructure from 12 deployments to a single cluster.”

Unified Platform Reduces Complexity and Downtime
Cloud-only databases expose apps to revenue risk when connectivity fails, while mobile-only solutions require complex integration with cloud backends. Couchbase Mobile eliminates these challenges with a unified platform, enabling seamless data synchronization from cloud to edge to device to web.

Key updates include:

  • Couchbase Lite for JavaScript: Embeds Couchbase Lite in browser-based apps for offline-first experiences and unified synchronization with Capella Database-as-a-Service.
  • Advanced P2P Sync: Includes device auto-discovery, mesh support, network auto-switching, and Bluetooth support, reducing implementation complexity dramatically.
  • XDCR & Multi-Cluster Resilience: Cross data center replication ensures zero-downtime disaster recovery, failover, and seamless cluster migration for mobile users.
  • Couchbase Edge Server: A lightweight database server designed for resource-constrained environments such as retail stores, warehouses, airplanes, and restaurants.

With these advancements, Couchbase Mobile empowers organizations to deliver reliable, AI-enabled applications across web, mobile, and edge environments—ensuring business continuity, lower costs, and simplified development.
