China and Laos Establish First China-ASEAN AI Cooperation and Innovation Platform

China and Laos have officially signed an agreement to establish the China-Laos AI Innovation Cooperation Center in Vientiane, marking the first AI collaboration platform between China and ASEAN. This initiative aims to enhance Laos’ AI capabilities and foster regional technological growth.


LAOS 24 February 25 – In a major step towards strengthening artificial intelligence (AI) collaboration between China and ASEAN, China and Laos have officially signed an agreement to establish the China-Laos AI Innovation Cooperation Center. The initiative, led by China’s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in partnership with the Lao government, represents the first AI cooperation platform of its kind between the two nations.

The signing ceremony was attended by key officials, including Chen Gang, Party Secretary of the CPC Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Committee and Chairman of the Standing Committee of the People’s Congress of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, and Boviengkham Vongdara, Minister of Technology and Communications of Laos. Chen is currently leading a delegation to Laos, reinforcing China’s commitment to technological collaboration.

This groundbreaking partnership aims to strengthen Laos’ AI infrastructure, empowering various industries through advanced AI applications. The rapid transition from negotiations to signing highlights the strong consensus and execution efficiency of both governments.

On February 23, the signing ceremony for the China-Laos AI Innovation Cooperation Center was held in Vientiane.

The project aligns with the ASEAN-China Joint Statement on Digital Cooperation, promoting AI inclusivity and sustainable digital ecosystems in the region. The Lao government and various stakeholders have praised the initiative, recognizing China’s support in transforming Laos’ AI industry vision into concrete progress.

Under China’s AI inclusivity plan, Guangxi will continue to enhance AI cooperation with ASEAN nations, starting with this center. The initiative is expected to drive economic development, support digital transformation, and improve technological accessibility, ensuring AI’s benefits reach a broader population.
