CelcomDigi and HPUNIMAS unveiled MediRover and MediDoc, two innovative telehealth solutions aimed at improving healthcare access for underserved communities across Sarawak. Leveraging 5G, AI, and satellite connectivity, the initiatives bring specialist care directly to remote areas while strengthening digital healthcare infrastructure.
MALAYSIA, 4 NOVEMBER 2025 – CelcomDigi Berhad (CelcomDigi) and Hospital Pengajar Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (HPUNIMAS) have launched MediRover and MediDoc, pioneering solutions set to transform healthcare delivery in Sarawak’s underserved communities. The launch, officiated by YAB Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Amar Haji Fadillah bin Haji Yusof at HPUNIMAS, underscores Malaysia’s commitment to leveraging technology for inclusive healthcare access.
Sarawak’s challenging geography and dispersed population often require communities to travel hours or even days for medical care. MediRover, a mobile clinic powered by CelcomDigi’s 5G and satellite connectivity, enables virtual consultations, AI-driven diagnostics, and remote patient monitoring directly in rural areas. MediDoc, meanwhile, establishes “Klinik Angkat” in local communities, allowing frontline healthcare workers to consult HPUNIMAS specialists in real time, integrating telemedicine, portable imaging, wearable monitors, and immersive training tools.
Prior to the official launch, MediRover reached over 30 underserved locations, benefiting around 8,000 Sarawakians. MediDoc pilot projects under the KPT Prihatin MADANI programme demonstrated the potential of digital healthcare in remote areas such as Ulu Skrang, Long Busang Belaga, and Lubuk Antu.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Amar Haji Fadillah highlighted the significance of the initiative, noting that digital connectivity enables faster, smarter, and more inclusive healthcare in line with the 13th Malaysia Plan, which allocates RM40 billion to healthcare reform, including nationwide digital health records.
CelcomDigi’s Chief Innovation Officer T. Kugan emphasized that MediRover and MediDoc leverage 5G, AI, and satellite connectivity to bridge the distance between patients and doctors, creating a scalable model that could expand nationwide. UNIMAS Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Ahmad Hata Rasit added that the collaboration extends the teaching hospital’s expertise to communities traditionally out of reach, aligning with UNIMAS’ mission to improve health outcomes through research and innovation.
At the event, CelcomDigi, UNIMAS, and Pusat Perubatan Universiti Malaya (PPUM) signed a tripartite Memorandum of Agreement witnessed by the Deputy Prime Minister. The partnership commits to co-developing smart healthcare solutions, piloting connected hospital models, and building local capabilities through research, training, and knowledge sharing.
MediRover and MediDoc represent a milestone in Sarawak’s digital healthcare transformation, demonstrating how technology, collaboration, and innovation can bring specialist care to every corner of the state.
