16 May 2024 – Casio Computer Co., Ltd. has unveiled its newest addition to the G-SHOCK family of shock-resistant watches, the G-5600SRF, created in collaboration with the Surfrider Foundation, an international environmental non-governmental organization dedicated to ocean protection.
G-5600SRF: A Tribute to Ocean Conservation
The Surfrider Foundation, established in California in 1984 and now active in 23 countries with over 250,000 supporters, inspired the creation of this latest G-SHOCK timepiece. Casio’s collaboration with Surfrider Foundation has led to seven previous models between 1995 and 2010. The G-5600SRF, the eighth collaboration, features a shock-resistant design and is crafted with recycled resin scraps obtained from Casio’s manufacturing facilities.
Unique Design and Environmental Consciousness
The G-5600SRF boasts a distinctive design with a bezel and band made from recycled resin scraps, finely shredded and mixed into a base urethane material, resulting in a fun and unique appearance with black and white flakes. The watch features artwork by Yusuke Hanai, highlighting the Surfrider Foundation’s logo on the dial and case back, along with the hashtag #oceanfriendlylifestyle printed on the band loop, serving as reminders of the importance of ocean conservation.
Practical Features for Everyday Use
In addition to its environmental focus, the G-5600SRF offers practical utility with a Tough Solar charging system, harnessing power from sunlight and fluorescent light to eliminate the need for regular battery replacements. The watch is also packaged in paper packaging made from recycled materials, further emphasizing its commitment to sustainability.
