MasterCard yesterday announced that they have introduced its digital payments, MasterPass in Canada, making the consumers there the first in North America to be able to register for MasterPass services. The consumers now can pay using MasterPass at few e-commerce websites such as Porter Airlines, WagJag, Jaunt.ca and Grocery Gateway.
MasterCard Canada aims to enable 800 merchants to accept MasterPass end of this year and 2,800 merchants by the end of 2014. According to MasterCard Advisor’s SpendingPulse, Canadian year-over-year e-commerce sales grew 26.6 per cent over the past 6 months ending in February 2013, compared to just 2.9 per cent growth in overall Canadian retail sales during the same time period.
