Bursa Malaysia, in partnership with the Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM), introduces the SME X Platform, a groundbreaking initiative facilitating corporate fundraising for SMEs. Leveraging data and technology, the platform connects SMEs with potential investors, offering comprehensive insights into company performance. The platform is a result of a collaboration between Bursa Malaysia and SSM, aimed at enhancing data analytics for strategic business decisions.
23 January 2024 – Bursa Malaysia Bhd, in collaboration with the Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM), has unveiled the SME X Platform, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at bolstering corporate fundraising and business investment opportunities for small and medium enterprises (SMEs). Launched to bridge the financing gap, the SME X Platform connects SMEs with potential investors, including private equity firms, venture capitalists, and financial institutions seeking to invest in companies displaying strong financial standing and growth potential.
The innovative platform, a result of a memorandum of understanding signed between Bursa Malaysia and SSM in late 2022, leverages data and technology to streamline corporate fundraising efforts. By offering a comprehensive blend of Bursa Malaysia market data and data from SSM, including sectoral performance, evaluation of key financials, and indicators of companies with IPO potential, the SME X Platform enhances decision-making for financial institutions and investment entities.
Speaking at the launch event, Datuk Muhamad Umar Swift, CEO of Bursa Malaysia, highlighted the platform’s role in narrowing the gap between companies seeking funds and potential investors. He emphasized the diverse fundraising avenues facilitated by the platform, encompassing IPOs, debt fundraising through Bursa Malaysia RAM Capital Sdn Bhd, and engagement with private entities, venture capitals, and other financial institutions.
The online platform provides detailed insights into companies’ directors and management, shareholding structures, and key financials, enabling a comprehensive understanding of each company’s financial standing, as well as its subsidiaries and affiliated companies. This wealth of information supports informed decision-making for investors and financial institutions.
SSM CEO Datuk Nor Azimah Abdul Aziz emphasized the significance of seamless data integration within the platform, with the commission contributing the Corporate Business Information Data (CBID), which comprises key statutory information on over 650,000 companies. This includes financial data from approximately 200,000 companies that have demonstrated high revenue over the past three years, enriching the platform’s capabilities and ensuring the provision of current and valuable insights.
As of December 31, 2023, SSM has registered over 9.1 million businesses and more than 35,000 limited liability partnerships, with 1.5 million companies incorporated. The SME X Platform is currently in its initial roll-out phase and is accessible on a subscription basis. – Ref: Bernama
