Bank Islam Malaysia Berhad and Opus Asset Management have signed a strategic MoU to broaden access to Shariah-compliant fixed income solutions, aiming to provide clients with secure and ethical investment options. The collaboration enhances wealth management offerings while reinforcing commitments to responsible investing.
MALAYSIA, 23 JULY 2025 – In a move to enhance ethical investment offerings in Malaysia, Bank Islam Malaysia Berhad (Bank Islam) and Opus Asset Management Sdn Bhd (OpusAM) have officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to form a strategic partnership, paving the way for expanded access to Shariah-compliant fixed income investment solutions.
The signing ceremony took place on 22 July 2025, with OpusAM Group Managing Director Siaw Wei Tang and Bank Islam Director of Wealth Management Datin Zaharah Abd Muttalib signing on behalf of their respective institutions. The event was witnessed by Noorshidah Ismail, Chairman of the Board at Opus Islamic Asset Management, and Mizan Masram, Bank Islam’s Group Chief Business Officer – Retail Banking, alongside senior executives from both organisations.
The partnership focuses on providing secure, consistent, and Shariah-compliant investment products to both new and existing Bank Islam clients. “With the rise in fraudulent investment schemes, many individuals have suffered financial losses,” said Siaw Wei Tang. “Our goal is to promote reliable fixed income investments that prioritise capital preservation and sustainable returns, especially in times of global uncertainty.”
Highlighting its commitment to ethical finance, OpusAM also reaffirmed its role as a responsible investor following its admission as a signatory to the United Nations-backed Principles for Responsible Investment (UN PRI) in March 2024. This step solidifies OpusAM’s pledge to incorporate environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles in its investment strategies.
Starting 15 July 2025, Bank Islam will serve as a distribution partner for OpusAM’s key investment products, including:
- Opus Shariah Cash Extra Fund
- Opus Shariah Income Fund
- Opus SRI Sukuk Fund (Class B)
These funds will be accessible across Bank Islam’s nationwide network of over 100 branches, offering clients a diversified portfolio of fixed income instruments tailored for both short- and long-term goals.
“Through this collaboration, we aim to empower our clients with ethical, liquid, and stable investment alternatives, providing them with confidence to grow and preserve their wealth,” said Mizan Masram. “This alliance also complements our strategy of delivering diversified investment solutions beyond traditional fixed deposits.”
