A Kaspersky study shows high adoption of AI and IoT in APAC businesses, raising concerns about cybersecurity as companies struggle to secure these technologies.
5 March 2024 – A recent study by cybersecurity firm Kaspersky has revealed that a significant portion of businesses in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region are embracing interconnected technologies, with nearly two-thirds (61% and 64%) already using Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Internet of Things (IoT) in their operations. Additionally, the study indicates strong future adoption plans, with 28% and 26% of companies planning to implement AI and IoT within the next two years.
However, the widespread adoption of these technologies is accompanied by growing concerns regarding cybersecurity. The study found that a significant portion of companies (13-14%) perceive AI and IoT as “very difficult” or “extremely difficult” to secure, while only a small percentage (6% and 10% for AI and IoT users, respectively) believe they are fully protected. These findings highlight a potential skills gap within organizations, as many companies are using these technologies without having adequate cybersecurity measures in place.
Experts at Kaspersky emphasize the need for businesses to prioritize cybersecurity as they integrate interconnected technologies into their operations. They recommend adopting secure-by-design principles, implementing advanced security solutions like XDR and container security, and investing in employee training to build a cyber-aware workforce. Additionally, staying compliant with evolving regulations is crucial to avoid legal and reputational risks.
