Sept 2, 2013 (Mon): In line with Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) effort to accelerate the migration to e-payments in Malaysia, banks in the country are required to deploy at least one Internet banking kiosk at all branches nationwide to facilitate the public access to online banking services including interbank GIRO (IBG) service by March next year.
BNM Deputy Governor Datuk Muhammad Ibrahim told this in a media briefing after announcing BNM’s awareness campaign on IBG.
The awareness campaign aims to reduce cheque transactions by 13 times to 100 million from 204 million and to increase 10.6-time in debit card transactions to 30 per capita from 1.2 per capita currently.
