Intel Malaysia, in collaboration with Penang Science Cluster, has launched the Intel® Geek Kids program to foster STEM education among underserved primary school students in Malaysia. The program includes a series of workshops and mentorship, culminating in an innovation competition, aiming to ignite curiosity, nurture innovation, and unlock the potential of young students in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.
KUALA LUMPUR, 27 June 2023 – Intel Malaysia, in collaboration with Penang Science Cluster (PSC), has officially launched the Intel® Geek Kids program, aimed at nurturing an interest in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) among underserved primary school students in Malaysia. The program, which builds upon a successful pilot conducted in 2022, will provide workshops and mentorship to over 700 students, fostering innovation and preparing them for an innovation competition in October 2023.
The Intel® Geek Kids program, initiated by Intel Malaysia, aims to bridge the gap in access to STEM programs for underserved communities in Malaysia. Following a virtual pilot in 2022 involving more than 800 students from over 130 schools, the program now enters its first formal iteration with a series of eight in-person workshops across the nation. These workshops, spanning two months, will equip 9 to 12-year-old primary school students with problem-solving skills and technical knowledge, guided by mentors from the industry.
“We are proud to bring the Intel® Geek Kids program to underserved communities, providing equal opportunities for all to gain technology-based skills,” said AK Chong, Managing Director of Intel Malaysia and Vice President of Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and Operations. “In today’s world, technological proficiency is becoming increasingly important across all fields. Through this initiative, we aim to inspire young minds to explore their potential and pursue a future filled with possibilities.”
The workshops offered in the program will cover a diverse range of topics, stimulating creativity and innovation among the participating students and teachers. With the guidance of mentors, students will work on innovation projects that will culminate in an innovation competition scheduled for October 2023.
Dato’ Ooi Peng Ee, CEO of Penang Science Cluster, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration with Intel Malaysia, stating, “As an organization committed to advancing STEM education and nurturing a love for innovation in young students, we are thrilled to join forces for the Intel® Geek Kids program. Our goal is to ignite curiosity and pave the way for these children’s involvement in the captivating realms of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. Together, we aspire to unlock their potential and create a bright future filled with endless opportunities.”
Through the Intel® Geek Kids program, Intel Malaysia and Penang Science Cluster aim to inspire and empower young students from underserved communities, equipping them with the skills and knowledge necessary for their future success in an increasingly technology-driven world.
