Survey found online retailers to focus site optimization in 2013

The 2013 Shop.org/Forrester Research Inc. State of Retailing Online survey shows 51 per cent of retailers surveyed say their top priority for 2013 is site optimization, including checkout optimization, alternative payments, user experience, testing, and product detail page enhancements. In addition, 43 per cent of the respondents say invest in new or improved mobile apps and mobile-optimized sites, analytic  and traffic and conversion growth are among the top 3 priorities in 2013, followed by site redesign (27%), including overhauling “look and feel” and implementing responsive design changes.

The survey also found the online retail remains healthy with more than half (58%) of the retailers surveyed say their conversion rates were increased last year and their cart abandonment rate was either stable or even down compared to 2011. However, 36 per cent of the respondents say mobile sales and traffic brings positive impact to their overall conversion rate but 29 per cent say negative.
