Ripe time for mobile social commerce, PIKOM says

Mobile social commerce is an electronic commerce that involves using social media such as Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and other online media that supports social interaction to assist in the online buying and selling of products and services and run on mobile technology.

The National ICT Association of Malaysia (PIKOM) chairman Woon Tai Hai told that now is the ripe time for mobile social commerce due to the growth of mobile social networking and e-commerce in the country. He also pointed out Malaysians spent about one-third of their time on social networking sites. The entrepreneur should take the opportunity to leverage on the power of mobile social media for e-commerce, Woon added.

According to Datuk Badlisham Gahzali, CEO of Multimedia Development Corp (MDec), more than 11 million or 39 per cent of Malaysians were reported as Facebook users last year and the total e-commerce transactions last year were recorded at RM1.97 billion and RM467 million out of it was generated through mobile commerce transactions.
