Perform malware “DNS Changer” test before 9 July 2012

KUALA LUMPUR: When the user’s computer is infected with a virus named DNS Changer, the computer will not be able to access Internet on 9 July 2012 (Monday), warned by U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). FBI estimated at least 270,000 computers worldwide affected.

The virus is written by Estonian hackers and the criminal is operated under the company named “Rove Digital”. The botnet operated by Rove Digital altered user DNS settings, pointing victims to malicious DNS in data centers in Estonia, New York, and Chicago. The malicious DNS servers would give fake, malicious answers, altering user searches, and promoting fake and dangerous products. Because every web search starts with DNS, the malware showed users an altered version of the Internet.

The computer users are advised to perform a test at the DNS Changer Working Group’s website http://www.dcwg.org/ or others operated by various security firms. If your computer found affected by the virus, please follow the instruction stated at http://www.dcwg.org/fix/ to fix it before the Monday.
