One Great Deal that Gives a Second Chance to Animals

Feb 19, 2014 (Wed): Leading social e-commerce site, LivingSocial Malaysia recently launched a nationwide month long campaign as part of its corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative to garner contribution from members. The campaign is a collaboration with the Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) Selangor and is aimed to raise funds and create awareness in the adoption of rescued animals from the shelter. The campaign was launched on 3rd February 2014 and has since generated overwhelming contribution from LivingSocial Malaysia members.

This campaign has been promoted via LivingSocial Malaysia’s Facebook page and Twitter handle. LivingSocial Malaysia members can donate RM 10.00 at LivingSocial.com until 28 February 2014.

Recently trending article by The Star headlined ‘Catch, Kill and Get Paid…’ describing private dog catchers in Malaysia who are hired by local councils to catch and kill stray dogs and cats. Through this campaign, LivingSocial Malaysia hopes to raise awareness among the local community on the role of SPCA in animal welfare.

“LivingSocial runs a social e- commerce site and prides itself on offering amazing services and experiences at the best price. However, it is also vital that the influence of social e-commerce goes beyond building a successful business platform, With this CSR initiative with SPCA Selangor, individuals can come together to make a significant impact for the stray and abandon dogs and cats to ensure that they are being protected” said Dave Chang, Chief Operating Officer of LivingSocial Malaysia.

The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) Selangor receives more than 700 unwanted, homeless or abused animals every month. With an astounding amount of animals that are in dire need of care and love, this shelter is constantly challenged by shortage of space and limited funds. In the month of February, let’s shower some love to our fellow furry animals and help SPCA to carry out their animal welfare services and activities.
