New launch of Amazon AutoRip gives challenge to iTunes

The e-commerce giant Amazon.com has launched Amazon AutoRip, a new service that gives customers free MP3 versions of CDs they purchase from Amazon. When customers purchase AutoRip CDs, the MP3 versions are automatically added to their Amazon Cloud Player libraries for immediate playback or download without any charges while waiting for the CD to arrive.

Amazon now offers thousands of AutoRip CDs including for industry-wide top-sellers like “21” by Adele, “Overexposed” by Maroon 5 and “The Truth About Love” by Pink as well as classic like “Dark Side of the Moon” by Pink Floyd and “Thriller” by Michael Jackson. According to Amazon, customers who purchase an AutoRip CD including the free digital copy actually pay less than the purchase at iTunes which only offers digital album.

The launch of AutoRip has benefited customers who have purchased AutoRip CDs from Amazon Music Store since 1998. They will receive the free MP3 versions of those albums automatically for free in their Cloud Player libraries.
