The Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI), in partnership with Cradle Fund Sdn Bhd, announces the second stop of the transformative micro-conference series, MYStartup NXT, held in Sarawak, Malaysia. MYStartup NXT Sarawak aims to foster inclusivity, impact, and sustainability within Malaysia’s dynamic startup ecosystem by bringing together aspiring entrepreneurs, existing startups, and industry experts.
The event, organized in collaboration with Tabung Ekonomi Gagasan Anak Sarawak (TEGAS), spans over two days and provides a platform for aspiring and existing entrepreneurs to learn, network, and engage with corporates, technology giants, investors, and other stakeholders crucial to starting and scaling a business.
YB Datuk Arthur Joseph Kurup, Deputy Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, expressed confidence in the MYStartup initiative, stating, “At MOSTI, we remain committed to supporting initiatives that foster entrepreneurship and technological advancement, driving innovation, creating employment opportunities, and contributing to the overall economic development of Sarawak and Malaysia.”
Ahmad Kashfi Alwi, Senior Vice President of Ecosystem Development at Cradle, emphasized the unique challenges faced by entrepreneurs in Sarawak and highlighted the event’s role in creating a more inclusive and sustainable startup ecosystem for Malaysia.
The first day of MYStartup NXT Sarawak commenced with an insightful panel discussion titled “Sarawak: An Undiscovered Launchpad to Southeast Asia.” The panel shed light on Sarawak’s untapped potential as a strategic business hub in Southeast Asia, with its favorable combination of factors, supportive startup ecosystem, abundant natural resources, and proximity to Nusantara, which will soon house Indonesia’s new capital. The discussion highlighted the benefits of establishing startups in Sarawak, explored unique industry opportunities, and shared strategies for global expansion.
A spotlight session on “Sarawak’s Rise as a Tech Hub” further showcased the remarkable progress achieved through the Sarawak Digital Economy Strategy (2018-2022). The strategy has facilitated the state’s transformation into a developed region by 2030, with the establishment of digital innovation hubs, community centers, and villages providing ample opportunities for startups to incubate and businesses to scale up through digitization.
On the second day, a panel session titled “Building Stronger Foundation: Secure and Scalable Cloud Infrastructures for Startups” will emphasize the importance of establishing secure and scalable cloud infrastructures to support the growth and scalability of startups in the modern business landscape. Additionally, a fireside chat on “Building a Next-Gen Catalyst: Empowering the Changemakers of Tomorrow” will explore Sarawak’s pivotal role as a catalyst for change, encouraging innovation and collaboration among the government, private sector, and civil society to drive technological advancements and positive impact.
