Malaysia’s first illegal IPTV service seized
12 suspects aged between 28 and 40 were arrested by police for conducting illegal Internet Pay Television (IPTV) namely MYIPTV in the country which has caused RM60 million losses to the local licensed TV networks. The syndicate was operating its IPTV service in Park View Tower condominium in Butterworth since one year ago.
MYIPTV offered broadcasting movies from over hundred channels including Hong Kong, China, Thailand and Indonesia as well as pornography channels from Japan. According to the police, people just need to use RM400 to buy ‘Durian HD Media Box’ player and pay monthly service fee of RM29 to enjoy the service.
After the first of its kind illegal IPTV service busted, the police estimated at least 2,000 subscribers of MYIPTV will be affected and not able to continue to use the service. Majority of the subscribers are from northern region of the country.
