Infographic: State of the Internet for Asia Pacific Region in Q4 2012

Akamai, which helps enterprises accelerate innovation in the hyperconnected world by removing the complexities of technology, will publish its “State of the Internet” report in every quarter, based on data gathered across Akamai’s global server network. “State of the Internet” highlights attack traffic, connection speeds, Internet penetration, broadband adoption and mobile usage as well as trends seen in this data over time.

In Akamai’s latest “State of the Internet” for Q4 2012, the report found that the global average connection speed increased 5 per cent to 2.9 Mbps and the global average peak connection speed increased 4.6 per cent to 16.6 Mbps. Among those that saw positive QoQ changes, growth ranged from 2.7 per cent in Philippines to 19 per cent in India (to 1.2 Mbps). In Asia Pacific region, South Korea carries the highest average connection speed which is 14.0 Mbps while Malaysia only provides 2.3 Mbps.

Regarding mobile connectivity, the report shows mobile provider AU-3 had the highest average connection speed at 2453 kbps while MY-1 had the lowest at 766 kbps. Mobile provider HK-1 had the highest average peak connection speed at 30364 kbps while TW-2 had the lowest at 5582 kbps.
