High-Speed Broadband to Be Upgraded and Expanded Under The Budget 2014

Oct 25, 2013 (Fri): In the 2014 Budget by Malaysia’s Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak in Parliament this afternoon, the Government will expand the second phase of the High-Speed Broadband (HSBB), a project under the National Broadband Initiative in the 9th Malaysia Plan to ensure Malaysians can obtain information instantaneously.

In the second phase, the government will spend RM1.8 billion to expand the broadband coverage in major towns as well as urban areas and to increase the speed to 10 Mbps. RM1.5 billion will be invested to build 1,000 new telecommunications tower while RM850 million will be used to build new undersea cable to improve internet in East Malaysia over three years.
