Aug 15, 2013 (Thu): According to a recent research by Gartner, worldwide mobile phone sales grew 3.6 per cent to reach 435 million units in second quarter this year. In the same period, smartphone sales grew 46.5 per cent and exceeded feature phone sales for first time.
Samsung maintained the No. 1 position in the global smartphone market, as its share of smartphone sales reached 31.7 per cent, followed by Apple (14.2%) and LG (5.1%). For operating system (OS), Microsoft has become the No. 3 smartphone OS overtaking BlackBerry with market share of 3.3 per cent, after Android (79%) and iOS (14.2%).
